Edmunds Jansons: Little Bird´s Diary
A documentary animation film. Quite innovative. Based on a visual diary made by Latvian Irina Pilke, an old woman, who has drawn episodes from her life since 1947. Made into a film through the script and interview from writer Nora Ikstena.
What comes out of it is a sweet and soft in tone, sketchy personal life story that succesfully has been given an atmosphere of intimity and reconciliation that fit an old woman, who has experienced the USSR and its camps, lived with a first husband who was nice, had diabetes but was violent to her, so she divorced him, and had a second husband who was also nice but died of a heart attack after 7 months!
Producer Bruno Ascuks wants to develop more film from this original concept. Please do so… And festival people (and tv) who read this – programme it!
Latvia, 2007, 23 mins.
