DOCA Georgia at DOK Leipzig 2026
| DOCA Documentary Association Georgia is proud to present a delegation of Georgian filmmakers at DOK Leipzig this year. Amid the shrinking civic and cultural space we currently face in our country, this representation takes a uniquely significant role. Due to the Georgian government’s “foreign agents” policy, four German foundations have been forced to suspend their operations in Georgia. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom have closed their offices in Tbilisi, while the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Friedrich Ebert Foundation remain in the the capital in pending mode. For nearly two years, dozens of political prisoners have been serving prison terms, including journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli, actor Andro Chichinadze, poet Zviad Ratiani. Needless to say, there is no public funding available for independent artists, while funding scheme for documentary film form is non-existent. While living and woking in a hostile environment – and being targeted for our artistic work or public stances – international partnerships have become truly existential. Despite major challenges, DOCA Georgia remains deeply committed to supporting Georgian filmmakers. At DOK Leipzig we introduce you to four Georgian projects across various industry platforms: Co-Production Forum, Short n’ Sweet and Preview Germany. |
