Jordi Ambros – Homage

Dear Jordi.

It´s an honour for me to be here to be part of this well deserved tribute to you.

I felt humbled when Qimi told me that you pointed at me, when the wish was to have someone from outside Catalunya to be here.

To say how important you have been for me and many other internationally.

As a commission editor/producer for your Catalan channel.

But for me not only professionally but quite as much as the person you are. The two sides can not be separated.

Neither can the engagement and passion you have demonstrated in your work and as a Catalan, who believes in the INDEPENDENCIA. I remember a dinner at the Sunny Side in Marseilles, when we Danes asked you what is it with this independence… why? Your passionate answer lasted two hours.

We were – talking about independence and oppression – together in Ramallah, where we encouraged the Palestinians to make films about their situation. And we were in Buenos Aires to give inspiration to the Argentinians. Just to mention a couple of adventures. It was at the time, when I was at EDN and we always wanted to have you in the panel. Because you were one of the few, who understood what it meant for the filmmakers to get warm and relevant feedback on their projects.

And chapeau for you supporting two filmmakers from the haunted country Serbia, Zejlko Mirkovic who is now a teacher in the US after many films that you supported and Boris Mitic who made a film called “A film about Nothing”. It’s about taking risks… how could you know, what would come out of it…It’s about trust.

And OH, on the personal side. I look at the two grown up men next to you and Qimi and remember when Ellen, my wife, and I slept at your place waking up as there were two boys crawling under our bed. And the many tours we have done together, enjoying each other’s company as we did on Crete at the summer house of filmmaker Eva. But you left me alone on another occasion in Macedonia, where I had to be at a boring conference, while you rented a car to take Ellen and Finnish Eila Werning to the beautiful lake Ohrid  Do you remember?

And Barca of course, our common passion. We talked about players, who were in the club and you mentioned Simonsen, the Danish player, the little player with the big heart, the only Dane who won a Ballon d’or. And Ronaldinho better than Messi? Good question.

We have had the huge pleasure to meet you  and Qimi the last years in Palamos, where we thanks to Joan Gonzalez and Montse have passed a week at the sea after DocsBarcelona. Do you remember last time, where we found a new way of communication…

Jordi, I am so happy that I know you and Qimi – it’s a true friendship that makes me think of you when the blackbird whistles in our garden.
